I took a direct sample of this growth from my bathroom ceiling. As gross as it is, I didn’t even know it was there until I got close to the ceiling (we bleached it right away)! I’m assuming that the wall tissue is water damaged, and that this is why the mold started to grow in the first place (warm temperatures + moisture = a happy place for mold to thrive). I don’t think this is necessarily the healthiest thing to be inhaling, but it’s common, and occurs in every household. So, I don’t know if the tissue is heathy or not (as there is no living tissue that the mold is growing on). I definitely expect to see high fungal growth once it’s plated on the media.
