This is a cactus that I have in my house. It started growing some baby cacti, and I thought that it would be an interesting source to take a sample of. I didn’t really want to damage the big cactus, since it’s still growing really well despite being pretty old, so I took one of the smaller cacti at the bottom, cut it up, and put it on the plates (with the needles and flesh). I would say that this small cactus is pretty healthy since the plant it upright, all the needles are white, and none of the needles are falling off which is a good sign that the cactus isn’t dying. There are no other marks present on the cactus that are indicative of any infections, and as such I do not think there would be that many fungi found on this cactus. This plant is also inside my house and I’m not sure if it would be exposed to as many fungi compare to a cactus grown outside. Therefore, I think there would be low levels of fungi present on this sample because it can still be a place where fungi grow. I think it would be really interesting to see if there is any fungi growing on the cactus especially since it’s inside my house and relatively healthy.
