These overlapping blobs that were found growing on a lovely coniferous tree look friendly and soft enough, but upon touching/tapping them they appear to be as tough as their host. They do not share in the features presented in the visual keys lab. They look quite similar to the red-belted polypore and can be identified as a shelf fungus known by the name of Fomitopsis mounceae.
