Sampled some soil right at the base of what I think is a maple tree by my house. The tree appeared healthy, with a large number of leaves still on the branches but some fallen to the ground around it’s trunk. The soil was damp, but not wet. I think that there will be a lot of fungal growth from this sample because of how close it was taken to the tree which could bring species that are associated with the tree itself, as well as how many leaves had fallen around it giving a good amount of fresh substrate for other species to decompose.
