This fungus was collected from a pinecone from a coniferous tree and is growing in CMA. The top and bottom of the colony looks the same and it is kind of a reddish-orange colour with black specks. The bottom of the colony is darker in colour, whereas the top seems kind of transparent with a hint of colour. The colony looks kind of felty in texture and it has a medium growth rate. This fungus does not really look like anything we’ve covered in class, but it kind of reminds be of Pestalotiopsis microspora. However, the colour does not really match up with the image shown in class. Pestalotiopsis microspora is yellow on the bottom and white on the top with black specks on the top and bottom. The one on my plate is rust coloured. It’s also hard to tell what the black specks are, and if they’re sclerotia or acervuli.
