On these plates is a piece of old rice that my roommate left in the rice cooker (on the left), and a piece of a bruised apple on the right. The blue mold that came from the apple is growing very fast and is mostly taking over any growth from the piece of rice. The CMA media here is on the left and the PDA media is on the right. On the CMA media there are numerous small colonies compared with the PDA which has larger colonies and altogether more mold growth. The rice on the CMA has been completely overtaken by the blue mold, and on the PDA it is still largely overtaken however there is some white mold growth if you look closely. The PDA media is better in this case because it is allowing growth from both the rice and the apple, and it has also allowed for more blue mold growth altogether.
