This mould is sourced from some mouldy pumpkin seeds leftover from a Halloween Jack-o-Lantern. The seeds themselves had dark spots on them, so it wasn’t surprising that this dark growth resulted on the plate. On one side, the growth is very dark brown, almost black, and on the other side, is a more white-ish/light brown. Based on this macromorphology, this fungi most closely resembles species such as Thielaviopsis basicola or Stachybotrys chartarum. However, because the one side that is darker is completely dark and does not just have a dark center, i believe this fungi more likely could be identified as Stachybotrys chartarum.
