I found a leaf from a large tree that seems to be decomposing from the tip. Since the rest of the leaf is green, it should have fallen in early autumn. I believe the black pigmentation is the fungus moving its way through the veins of the leaf. In that case, this could be the work of a very slow growing fungus. I predict slow fungal growth, even as I sampled the very tip.
