This is a fresh apple. Or is it? There are no blemishes on the peel, but the stem has a slight fuzz. It could just be a normal part of the stem, or it could be dust, or it could be a warm and dry home for fungi. Since the stem is not attached to the tree, it would count as dead plant tissue that fungi can grow on. If it turns out to be a fungi growing on the stem, it may grow much faster on a petri dish which has an abundance of nutrients.
