On these plates I have a sample from a moldy vegan cream cheese on the left, and a sample from some pumpkin puree that had some white growth on it on the right side of the plate.

Unfortunately, I waited a little bit too long as the mold from the cream cheese grew very quickly and intruded on the space of the pumpkin puree on the PDA plate (plate on the bottom with the red star). There is not much growth from the pumpkin puree on this plate, but I am unsure if that is because of the overgrowth or if it is simply because of the media. The opposite is observed on the CMA plate (top, with the black star), where the pumpkin puree had more growth on this plate than on the PDA plate and the cream cheese had less growth than on the PDA plate.

Based on these results, no media is “better,” however, it seems that the fungi from the cream cheese prefers to grow on the PDA, while the fungi from the pumpkin puree prefers to grow on the CMA. However, these results might be a bit skewed as the growth of the fungi from the pumpkin puree may have been limited due to the overgrowth of the fungi from the cream cheese on the PDA plate.
