This fungus was isolated from a leaf of an unknown plant species. The leaf was a bright green with black spots, and I plated samples containing the black splotches.
The fungus has a fuzzy white top and a burnt yellow-orange bottom. The colony appears to be irregularly shaped due to a large colony of bacteria growing on the opposite end of the PDA plate. However, the fungus seems to grow fairly quickly and would have probably grown to cover most of the plate if not for the bacteria.
Based on the morphology, I think this fungus must be Cylindrocarpon destructans. Both have a burn orange bottom, however my mold doesn’t have a bright white top. Instead, it appears almost yellow (orange in the photo) due to the orange bottom, but close up it appears white.
