These were found in Surrey, BC, on a fallen tree. This a non-gilled fungus. There is no cap present, no veil or gill features. The stem is branching, with a dark base and lighter tip. A scabby surface is present.
I think this most like Xylaria hypoxylon [carbon antlers].
