I found these on the SFU hiking trails, but i dont remember what it was growing on. From the looks of the picture, it looks like a wall of soil/sediment. The cap is conchate (seal shell) shaped and has a smooth underside. The stem is sessile (missing). This looks like Fomes fomentarius. On a side note, the yellow blobs sticking out are a fungus and I think they are Calocera cornea.
