I always see black spots on the dried layer of onion skin and sometimes even the fleshy parts, so I wonder if the black spots can infect the flesh overtime, or if it is dead. I expect low fungal growth because I dont think the fungus, if any are still alive since the skin is very dried and the fungus should grow in the soil, as do onions.
