The top half of both plates contain an unhealthy onion skin that brown spots, while the bottom half of both plates contains an onion skin that was healthy. The top plate is PDA media while the bottom plate is CMA. The union skins on the PDA media (top) has black fuzzy mold growing on the edges of both the healthy and unhealthy union skin, while the healthy union (bottom half of PDA) has white borders to the black mold. The CMA media appears to have a different type of mold growing, one that is white and fuzzy with a small black interior. Contamination appears to have occurred around the edges of the CMA plate. The PDA media seems to be doing a better job at growing fungi due to the size difference of the black mold compared to the white mold growing on the CMA plate. However, since it appears that different species are growing between the two types of media, one media type may be better suited to grow a different species than the other type of media.
