This sample is from a leaf that was attached to my apple tree. The left is the top and the right is the bottom. The colony looks very similar from both the top and bottom. It appears to have brown/black spots throughout growing over a rust coloured mycelium with white edges. The growth on this plate is relatively small but there are also many types of fungi on this specific plate that could restrict it’s growth. This does not look like a fungus we covered in class but the spots remind me of the small black sclerotia of Sclerotium cepivorum. However these sclerotia grow over brownish white mycelia whereas this fungi appears to be a more reddish brown/rust colour.
