Left plate is PDA and right plate is CMA.
The plates contain samples from an inorganic bread and a traditional Persian bread.
fungi growth is much faster in PDA plate for both samples and the whole area of the PDA plate is covered. growth is much slower in the CMA plate specially for the persian bread.
I was told that the persian bread is organic but based on my observations it is not as the growth from the other bread is much more faster and it has covered a larger area of the plate compared to the persian bread.
overall, the PDA plate is a better as it is a general purpose agar medium so it contains nutrients that allow faster growth of many types of fungi so if we need to grow a fungi in a short amount of time in order to isolate single spores or maybe study the cell or colony morphology or we want a media that provides the required nutrients for many different types of fungi then PDA is the best option however if we want to isolate only a specific type of fungi or study the growing process in more details over a longer period of time then PDA is probably not the best option because as we can see after just couple of days the areas covered by each fungi has overlapped and it is very difficult to determine the actual growth area of each. So in my opinion each media has its own advantages and disadvantages but in our case that we got our samples from random places without knowing the types of fungi that are present in each source (not knowing the exact growth requirements for each fungi) in order to just compare the growth patterns and identify few of them then PDA is better.
