Found this mushroom growing next to the sidewalk behind some bushes. It was growing on moist soil covered by dead plant matter from the bushes. This mushroom has a straight cap with even margins. The cap surface is smooth and looks almost velvety. The gills appear to be free, narrow, and of average thickness. They are also spaced close to each other with even edges. The stem is located centrally, with an equal shape and fibrous surface. It does not appear to have a veil and the bulb on the mushroom is not visible. Judging by the eye-catching dark brown cap and contrasting light yellow edge, this mushroom is mostly likely Macrocystidia cucumis, or Cucumber cap as it smells like cucumbers. However, the gills are supposed to be a pinkish-yellow colour. I suspect that the M. cucumis I found was not mature enough to produce the pink spores that they are known for.
