This mushroom was also found while I was out on my nature walk. Attached to a fallen cut tree. It is a dark brown/black colour in the center with a white rim around it. The underside is white. This is a polypore mushroom. The cap shape is flabelliform (fan shaped) and has a eroded cap margin with an uneven and bumpy cap surface. The underside of the mushroom is gill less and looks smooth. It doesn’t have a stem so I cannot describe those features. From the description I provided above I believe this is the red belted polypore with the name Fomitopsis pinicola , this was found on the pictoral key as well as the fungi from the flora and fauna .
