This mushroom grew on a wooden log that separated our hedge from the rest of the grass in my backyard.
This mushroom lacks any stems and appears to grow straight on the wood. It’s flat, relatively thin, and has a dry wrinkled surface. It also has a ribbed underside. It’s most notable feature is it’s coloration since it has distinct bands of black, brown, orange, and white. It’s also incredibly tough and woody.
Based on the fact that it’s a shelf fungus and it has a ribbed underside, I think this is a member of Gloeophyllum, perhaps G. sepiarium.
