I found these dandelions hiding between some leaves in a park I was walking through. I was pretty surprised to see them since it’s Fall, but I thought it would be interesting to take the seeds from one of them to see if there would be fungi growing on them. The dandelions look pretty healthy because the plants were upright and there were still a lot of seeds attached to the plant. However, the stems are turning a little bit red (not sure what the cause is – it could just because it’s almost winter). Since I inoculated the plates with only the seeds, I don’t think there would be that much fungi growing on the plates compared to if I took the stem or roots of the plant, but I also don’t know how many fungi would prefer growing on the seeds of weeds in general. Overall, I think there would be very low levels of fungi growing from these seeds.
