A leaf was taken from a deciduous tree that’s turning red. I chose this source because I thought that the colour of the leaves were a really vibrant red, which made the tree look really pretty. The tree looked very healthy as the majority of the leaves were unblemished and had no observable holes present. There were also a lot of leaves present on the tree, which suggests that it’s not diseased. The leaf I took was from the ground directly underneath the tree and it had a little bit of black spots on it. This was the spot I sampled from because I was curious to know if these darker spots were because of decomposition from fungi, or maybe it was residual pigmentation from when the leaves were changing colour. Since the tree the leaf came from is relatively healthy looking, I was also curious to know if there would be less fungi present compared to something that was decomposing. I expect there to be some fungi present on the leaf, however I’m not too sure what to expect.
