This sessile shelf fungus was found stuck to a fallen log in a forest park. The cap is black and tapers in a zonate pattern towards the margin which is orange. The fungus is slightly undulate as seen on the side. The underside is white with pores in it. This mushroom might be Fomitopsis mounceae which has the same colours and structure, but has slightly different proportions including a thicker cap margin and less black covering the cap.
