The bin in our backyard releases a lot of liquid from the compost that we put inside of it, which drips down the acrylic sheet into the soil in the garden below. I sampled some of that soil because I thought it would be rich in DOM and an ideal location for fungi to grow. I have yet to see any mushrooms pop out of this area over the years; probably because we’re turning the soil fairly often to grow vegetables and killing any mycelia that could be taking hold. I expect there to be a high abundance of fungi from this sample because the soil here is very rich in nutrients.
