Fallen from what I think is a maple tree by my house, I collected the whole leaf off the ground to take small pieces from for my sample. The tree itself appeared healthy, with some green leaves still attached to the branches and some brown and fallen to the ground like the one I picked up. I expect to see a lot of fungi because it is likely that this leaf on the ground may have either started decomposing or will very soon start decomposing, which fungi often facilitate.
