These were found on a dead log in a ravine near my house. It does not appear to be branching and looks different than the average mushroom. They are thin, small and short. I would say these are similar to Clavaria vermiclaris, because of its shape and white colour. However, these have a black base which is different. Another mushroom that has this black base is Xylaria hypoxylon but this branches at the top like antlers whereas these appear unbranched. I would say this would be most similar to Clavaria and may be another species in this genus.
